Integration Using PCo
SAP® Plant Connectivity connects the industry-specific standard data sources of different manufacturers with any external server. The standard data sources can be process control systems, plant Historian systems, and SPC systems. We use SAP® PCo Management Console to connect the Plant with external servers where the authorized credentials and URL are configured.To integrate PCo with MII, the configurations are done both on the PCo and MII servers. SAP® Plant Connectivity component has the following advantages:
- PCo can be configured quickly. No additional developments of your own are necessary in order to connect source systems in production.
- PCo can communicate with different software systems on the shop floor.
- A PCo system can be configured for one or multiple locations.
- The flexible, method-based connection of servers and clients in production is possible using the OPC UA standard or Web service standards.
External database integration
SAP MII acts as a hub for various data sources namely SAP® ERP, SQL/Oracle® databases, Plant Connectivity. As applicable to all other external connections, this also involves authorized credential configurations. If the MII system would like to draw data from say, S4 HANA data source, then a set of standard configurations are done. The S4 HANA server URL, the username and password for the same and the type of access to the server is usually configured. The external data source can restrict access to the MII users by providing only Read access or only Write access or sometimes even both much like reading a folder in your desktop. Once configured with proper authorization, the MII server can access the data accordingly and store or use it internally according to its requirement.
Integration using webservices
Integration helps in communication and exchange of information where a webservice provider enables certain functionalities that can be used by different applications workining on different codes. We can integrate an external Web service into your solution to access an external application using SOAP or REST protocol. SOAPis an XML-Based protocol specification for exchanging structured information via web services. SOAP used many operations, each implementing buisness logic throughout different interfaces. WS-Security and reliable Messaging are supported.
